(Included with your Bangle)
Caring for your Silk Bangle
Every Forbidden Hill collection begins with a story, woven into pieces to be styled your way. Crafted from carefully selected materials and finished to the highest standards, they are made to be worn and treasured. To preserve their beauty, please take note of the following care instructions.
General Care
To preserve the finish of your jewellery, avoid contact with perfumes, creams, chemicals, heavy sweat and abrasive surfaces. Remove your jewellery before swimming, showering, exercising or household cleaning.
After wearing, gently wipe your jewellery with a microfibre or soft clean cloth to remove oils and moisture.
To clean your Bangle, first remove the Silk Slides, then wash gently with lukewarm water and a few drops of mild dish soap. You can use a soft toothbrush if needed. Rinse thoroughly and dry immediately with a microfibre or soft clean cloth. Avoid prolonged soaking.
Storing Your Jewellery
Keep your jewellery in its pouch and store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture.
Consider storing it with anti-tarnish strips in an airtight bag, especially in humid environments, to help minimise tarnishing.
Removing Tarnish
Should tarnishing occur, the steps for its removal will depend on the specific metal finish of your jewellery.
Sterling Silver Bangles
Our Sterling Silver Bangles are finished with either silver-plating, rhodium-plating or gold-plating (gold vermeil).
Silver-Plating
The pieces with silver-plating may change colour over time due to exposure to air, moisture and chemicals.
If tarnishing occurs, you can gently buff your Bangle with a silver polishing cloth. You can also use the following method to help restore its shine:
- Line a bowl with aluminium foil.
- Dissolve 1 tablespoon of baking soda in a cup of warm water.
- Place the jewellery in the solution, ensuring it is touching the aluminium foil.
- Leave for a few minutes until the tarnish disappears. (If tarnish remains after 5 minutes, then repeat the process).
- Rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry immediately with a microfibre or soft clean cloth.
Note, this method is only suitable for jewellery made of silver. Remove the Silk Slides from your Bangle first and do not use this method on jewellery pieces containing delicate materials.
Rhodium-Plating
Rhodium is a precious metal that does not tarnish and provides a protective finish. The rhodium-plating on our sterling silver pieces keeps them shining longer, without the need for regular polishing.
While the rhodium surface will not tarnish, over time, tiny areas of the underlying sterling silver may become exposed through natural wear, allowing tarnish to develop. If gentle cleaning with soap and water does not remove the tarnish, then the above baking soda and aluminium method can be used.
Avoid silver cleaning solutions, harsh cleaners and solvents, as these may affect the rhodium-plated finish.
Gold-Vermeil
Gold Vermeil features a thick layer of gold over sterling silver. The gold surface will not tarnish, however over time, tiny areas of the underlying sterling silver may become exposed through natural wear, allowing tarnish to develop.
If tarnish appears, the above baking soda and aluminium foil method can be used to remove the underlying silver tarnish. This can be followed with a gentle buff with a gold polishing cloth to bring up the shine.
Please note though that while this method can restore the appearance of tarnished areas, the tarnish may return over time as the exposed sterling silver remains susceptible to oxidation.
Avoid silver cleaning solutions, harsh cleaners and solvents as these may wear away the gold finish.
Fashion Bangles
Our Fashion Bangles are either rhodium plated or gold-plated and finished with a clear, protective coating (e-coating).
Rhodium is a hard precious metal that does not tarnish. However if it is scratched or worn away, the underlying metal will be exposed and tarnish may develop. Similarly, if the underlying metal of your gold-plated Bangle becomes exposed through natural wear, tarnish may develop.
Following the General Care instructions above will increase your Bangle's longevity.
Do not use silver cleaning solutions, harsh cleaners, solvents or the baking soda and aluminium foil method for your Fashion Bangle, as these may damage the finish.
Should the plating on your well-loved Fashion Bangle wear away and tarnishing develops on the underlying metal, you are welcome to trade it in with us for a replacement piece of the same design at a discounted price. Contact at customer.service@forbiddenhill.pro for more information.
Caring for your Silk Slides
When washing your hands, it is best to push your Bangle up your arm, or take it off. Though the Silk Slides won’t be damaged by small splashes of water that dry quickly, large drops of water may leave water stains.
You may want to hand wash your Silk Slides every now and again if there is a build up of sweat, light stains or dust.
To hand wash your Silk Slides:
- Dip the Silk Slides in lukewarm water, apply a drop of delicate detergent on both sides and gently rub into the fabric to lift off dust and stains.
- Wait for a couple of minutes before rinsing the Slides under cold running water and remove all traces of detergent. Do not leave the Silk Slides resting in the water for more than 2-3 minutes.
- Soak up excess water by pressing the Slides between clean paper towels. Discard the paper towels and let the Slides dry naturally in the open air.
Adjusting the Clasp
The bangle clasp uses the tension from the metal to allow the hook on one side to grip the ledge beneath the opposite side.
Occasionally when too much pressure is applied, the side of the bangle with the hook may become slightly out of shape, resulting in a loose clasp.
① To adjust the clasp back to its original shape, hold the bangle as in the illustration and gently stretch the clasp away from the hinge.
② Close the bangle and check that the clasp locks securely again. The clasp hook should be tightly locked in to the opposite side.
Repeat the steps above if the clasp still feels loose or makes a slight rattling noise
